Your Child Saw a Ghost. Now What?
It’s a heart-stopping moment for any parent. Your child tells you there’s someone in their room. But there’s no one there. They talk about a shadow, a whisper, a figure. You check the closets, you look under the bed. Nothing. So what do you do?
Kids experience the world differently. They don’t have all the filters we do. Society, TV, and even us…we haven’t yet told them what they should and shouldn’t see. This innocence, this openness, might be why they seem to notice things we don’t. While most spirits or unexplained events are probably harmless, when it comes to your child, you don’t take chances. You want them to feel safe in their own bed.
You can do something about it. Something more than just leaving the hall light on. You can create a special kind of protection. An amulet. And you can make it together.
Making Protective Angels: A How-To
This idea comes from paranormal researcher Debi Chestnut, who details it in her book How to Clear Your Home of Ghosts & Spirits. She’s used this very method to help her own grandchildren. It’s not about complicated rituals. It’s about intention, love, and reclaiming the space for your child.
The goal is to make at least four simple angel “amulets” to stand guard in their room.
1. Gather Your Supplies.
Get creative. This should be fun, not scary. Use things like:
- Construction paper
- Markers or crayons
- Glue
- Glitter, sequins, stickers
- Pipe cleaners, yarn, or ribbon
You can find simple angel patterns online or just draw your own. The look isn’t what matters. The making of it is the magic.
2. Create with Intention.
As you and your child cut out and decorate the angels, talk. This is the most important part. Talk about whatever higher power your family believes in. God, the Universe, Spirit, love—it doesn’t matter what you call it. Talk about strength, safety, and light. Tell your child that you are filling these angels with good, strong energy. You’re making them powerful guardians. You are infusing them with your love and your fierce desire to protect your child. This isn’t just an art project; it’s an act of power.
3. Give Them a Little Extra.
This step is optional. It’s about your own comfort level. Once the angels are made, you can give them a blessing. A light sprinkle of holy water, a dab of pure olive oil, or a pinch of sea salt on each one can serve to seal in the good energy and cleanse away anything else.
4. Place the Guardians.
Now, help your child hang the angels. The placement is strategic.
- Hang one on their headboard.
- Place another at the foot of their bed.
- Put one on the outside of their bedroom door.
- Fix the last one to their closet door.
If other areas in the room feel wrong, make more angels. Let your child decide. This gives them control over their own space.
Why This Works
Is it magic? Not in the way you might think. On one level, this activity is deeply comforting. It empowers your child. They went from being scared of something unseen to actively creating their own protectors. You turned their fear into a creative, loving act. They feel safer, and that feeling is powerful.
On another level, many believe this does much more. By focusing your powerful parental intention—that deep, primal need to keep your child safe—you are creating a shield. You are sending a clear message to any negative or unwanted energy: You are not welcome here. This child is protected.
It’s an act of love. And in the end, is there any better protection than that?
